The individual will join the Global Storage Team which is part of Technology Services, the department responsible for delivering IT services to all lines of business within the Bank.

The role will provide support and management of the Backup infrastructure that underpins many of the Bank’s business critical services hosted Global Data Centres as well as in-country tech centres.

The Backup Administrator will report to the Global Backup Service Manager and work closely with other members of the team to fulfil operational and project tasks that will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Provision, configure, maintain and troubleshoot multiple Backup Domains hosted in Core DC as well as in-country
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance, optimise and stabilise backup infrastructure, making proactive recommendations to the Backup Service Manager. This will include, but not be limited to, areas of capacity, performance, availability, stability, cost and support roadmaps
  • Perform periodic capacity and performance planning of the Backup infrastructure and inform the Backup Service Manager of key findings and recommendations
  • Respond to and resolve Backup related incidents, managing all necessary communication with other technical teams and the management team
  • Participate in an on-call and shift rota to support internal business customers of the Backup service

Job Description

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Experience in writing UNIX Shell Scripts/other scripting to support DBA work
  • Knowledge of partitioning and parallel queries.
  • Preferable to have experience in Solaris.

Functional Skills:

  • Good debugging and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no direct supervision
  • Work in rotation includes night shifts.
  • Work as a build & design DBA and manage non production SDLC environments (P&V, Development, Testing and UAT).
  • BAU activities will involve installing, configuring & patching databases, troubleshooting, monitoring, object maintenance (e.g. partition, table, index) creation/maintenance, database capacity planning & management, design and manage backup & recovery, day-to-day work automation, security management(create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges), performance database tuning, technical documentation etc.
  • Work closely with other offshore colleagues/onsite DBA’s/development teams and project managers to gather requirements, build, design, implement solutions and provide technical consultation in line with client standards.
  • Delivers assignments by established deadlines and provide updates in timely basis of progress, status and/or concerns for each work assigned.
  • Manage Incidents/Work Requests, Release Management and code migration in SDLC environment.
  • Mentoring/Managing Junior DBA’s & self-deliverables

Relevant Experience:

At least 3 years’ experience with Oracle DBA.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Working knowledge of datacenter management.
  • Hardware and RAID Support.
  • Sound knowledge on Windows Installation, configuration and maintenance of Win2K,
  • Win2K3, W2k8/W2k12 servers with knowledge of NT4.0
  • Configure HP/DELL/IBM server by using iLO/DRAC/RAS etc.
  • Maintain datacentre environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Day to day operation on Server/Storage/OS/etc., issues/management, change management.
  • Handling production platform issues, supporting project team for installation and
  • commissioning of new hardware, upgrade etc.

  • Ensuring that the processes are adhered to
  • Ensure maximum uptime according to the SLA

  • Relevant Experience:

Qualification

Diploma/Graduate - Any Specialization, Diploma/PG - Any Postgraduate - Any Specialization, Post-Graduation.

Technical Certification:

  • MCTS/MCITP/MCSA/MCSE required.
